death seeps from the souls of...your feet
Oh spring break is upon me in about 4-5 hours. Yes, I have spring break the first full week of march. Awkward as it is. My additiction to buying the new and best of all things has been acheing inside me. Scratching at my ribcage like an alien about to pop out. Yes, there is something evil about this: http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3
To report on the status of RFOnline. It turns you into a mindless grinding grunt. It is an asian game and it screems it. I have yet to reach lvl 30 (where the real grinding begins but also the PvP). So upon reaching that peak, I will post my final judgment on the game which will also be accominied by tears of joy for I will finally be driving my mech, which as seen in game by me, moves about as quick as an old lady...damn movies made it seem like i'd be gliding around faster. The game needs some major work and I cannot deny it. Yet there is something about its openness to the fact that it IS a grind game that appeals to me. Instead of masking it with quests and dungeons as most other games do, WoW. Which brings me to the main point of this post.
What is wrong with the MMORPG world? and why do I feel that i must play all the ones that seem to have some goodness that i have yet to find? I hate them. They take up so much time and yet leave you unsatisfied. I did not save some princess from an overgrown turtle. I have yet to save the world from some appending doom. No, I have once again saved the world from evil bunnies that seem to somehow be able to slaughter me if taken on in groups. After much examination, a couple mins, I have realized, more in the sense of being slaped with a trout, that all mmorpgs are the same. They boil down and the battle system is much the same and infact they are exactly the same. Oh, maybe some cool new abilities. But so? Its not a CHANGE in the battle system. Aside from The Realm, all have been copies of the same /a format. Yet people still insist that it takes some amazing amount of skill. Where, in truth, the only thing that takes skill is some minor timing and knowing your class and place in life. At least in RFO and FFXI I looked PRETTY or CUTE. Where, sorry to say it, but I never was much of a fan of Warcraft in game art. The sketches always seemed to captivate me. Yet the game left me wanting something more. And personaly I would rather not wait till I am lvl 60 and then at least a year into dungeon grinding to find myself looking decent. If you deny it, your a fool. MMORPG market has died. The games I hope that will revive the genre are forign and thus I am unsure as to if I'll ever even get to touch them, let alone know if they fulfilled my wildest fantasies. If in some magical form this post was ever read by anyone who could make a difference in a genre going bad, i hope to god that they realize that if they were to only make the GRIND something DIFFERENT. Maybe the genre would transform, allowing them bathe in wealth. No matter how you look at it, an MMORPG is about the grind. It is about the leveling. It is about getting higher, kicking ass better, and thus being lvl 99. But, what if that wasn't the main focus? What if the main focus was to save your kingdom from turmoil? To stop some imending doom from occuring. No matter what your lvl is. Your job is clear. Stop the forces or evil, or help them reach their goals. Or hell, work both sides. Think about a world where in the game you don't truely know what side someone is on just by looking at the color of their name. How do you know they didn't just complete a quest to get your king assasinated? What if that 15 dollars you paid a month was 20? paid for the salary of the workers who acctually CHANGE the game depending on how evil or good is doing? Code in a new king riseing to the throne because the guild "Silver Monkey Pooh" were able to assasinate the previous king and get theirs on the throne? The possibilities are endless but in the end the only thing that matters to the corporations is the money. Quick and easy. Dirty. *sigh* There is no point. At least if that became true their would be alot of job opprotunities. Do the math sometime and think about if you paid 15 bucks a month. 10,000 people played. everyone paying 60 bucks just to start. the money from the buying of the game: 600,000. one month free. second month pay: 150,000. Now I can almost promise that at least 100,000 people will attempt to try the game (you just made 6million dollars). then you get 1.5 million each month. 1.5...thats alot of money. 12 months. that can easy pay for salary of the workers and designers and the server cost. Greedy corporations. bleh
